Flexible Relief
a Pilot Study
On February 25th, Carie will launch a Pilot Study with three short classes per week for people who need or prefer short sessions and/or more flexible scheduling. The pilot study will be free, though there are some journaling and survey expectations. This would be good for people with fatigue, chronic pain, those who want to savor the Feldenkrais experience in smaller sips, or those who just need a more flexible schedule.
Carie Fox’s Body Wisdom classes will rock your socks. The lessons offer flexibility, balance, efficient movement and pleasure, all rolled into one. Carie's underlying principle is to awaken your own inner teacher and her students are deeply satisfied by the transformations that they themselves bring about.
Usually Body Wisdom classes are taught in one hour lessons. But what if your inner teacher thinks an hour is too much? What if you are in need of shorter sessions with an adaptable schedule to achieve relief bit by bit instead of piling it on? Clients have asked for this, so this spring, Carie is going to experiment with shorter classes to offer maximum relief for 12 volunteers. Starting Feb 24th and continuing through May, Carie will be conducting a pilot study of an online subscription-style, drop-in-as-you-want approach. It will include:
Weekly Classes
One 30 minute movement class - The audio will be taped and posted
Two 20 minute workshops--drop in (as you can), bring your aches and pains and dreams and hopes, and Carie will teach some improvisational moves to help relieve the pain and maybe help you create some breathing room for new habits. Whether you generously bring a workshop question, watch, or do the moves yourself--because so often one person’s need will also be yours--you will learn from this. Spontaneous workshopping is a valuable opportunity to come to understand the logic of movement, weight bearing, proprioception and habit-expansion. With her 30 years of mediation experience, Carie can probably keep things rolling along in a fairly balanced way. (Let's find out!)
Blogs and vlogs about the issue that come up during the week
One 30 minute private lesson with Carie in February before the series starts.
And what does Carie get in return for these free 12 weeks of intriguing, helpful classes? Collaboration! This very idea came from you, her students, and she needs your input and involvement to test the concept, refine it, and adapt it. In return, Carie asks this of you:
Plan to attend at least once a week (and if you can't, help us understand why)
Be generous in bringing your questions to the workshops
Fill out the Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness survey at the start and end of the pilot study
Answer a very brief survey each week in March and every other week in April and May (a glorified thumbs up/down type for ~ 8 surveys)
The times are:
Saturdays at 10 Pacific Time (the 30 minute session)
Tuesdays at 5 Pacific
Thursdays at 1 Pacific
but don’t take those too seriously as one of the first things we'll do is look at the schedule and make sure that we have optimized it for the group and the time zones. We may even add in another short worshop-y option.
The goals for the study are to design a system that works for people who want to take the transformation in small sips, build community and most importantly to learn – all of us, students and teacher!
Interested? Then please do apply. We can't wait to hear from you.
