Carie was (and still is) a mediator with a law degree and a background in science and all. And then she discovered kayaking and Body Wisdom and found a new way of engaging. In some respects, this new interest is an enhancement of old skills she loves. Mediating and Body Wisdom are surprisingly similar: no forcing, pay attention, be kind. And in other respects, Body Wisdom is a revelation—a more elegant stride, moving pain-free, finding easier ways to organize herself.
And so… Carie embarked upon another career. She has 600 hours of training in the Feldenkrais Method® and Awareness Through Movement.® She has been working with Paulo Ouellet of Dancing with the Sea to develop a series of Body Wisdom classes specifically for kayakers, as well as with the Oregon Mediation Association to do the same thing for mediators—yes, attentive movement affects not only your comfort in your own body but also the way you interact with other people. Or, as a fellow kayaker has said ‘these classes have changed how I move about in the world.’
